Stephen's love of the construction industry started when he was a small boy in Florida. One summer day, Stephen was given the choice to visit the Kennedy Space Center or go to work with his dad on a construction site. Dad was a carpenter and superintendent for a local homebuilder. While most boys his age would opt for the space center and dream of becoming astronauts, Stephen chose to go to work with his dad on the construction site – and dreamed of becoming a builder.
After moving back to Ohio, throughout high school and college Stephen worked in the construction industry repairing storm windows and screens for a local siding and windows remodeler.
Upon returning to Florida in 1981, Stephen went to work with a commercial glazing company installing curtain wall framing and glass on high-rise buildings. He started as an apprentice glazer and within four years worked through the ranks of journeyman, superintendent, and then project manager.
In 1987, Stephen partnered with his brother Paul to start their own home remodeling company – PSG Construction. In the beginning they “wore the tool belt” and personally did much of the actual construction work. As their projects grew in size and became more plentiful, they slowly started to subcontract parts of the work to various trades with whom they began to build professional relationships.
Although Stephen’s construction company has constructed numerous custom homes, the majority of their work continues to focus on remodeling and additions to existing single-family homes.
Stephen has consistently been involved with the National Association of Home Builders on a local, state, and national level. He is a past president of the Home Builders Association of Metro Orlando as well as a former chairman of its Remodelers Council. He currently serves as a board member for the Florida Home Builders Association and is a past Remodelers Council chair as well as past Remodeler of the Year recipient. Additionally, he currently serves as a board member for the National Association of Home Builders.
Stephen has participated in numerous panel discussions in order to help educate the public on the intricacies of remodeling their homes, has written dozens of articles for the Orlando Sentinel and has been interviewed by countless consumer and trade periodicals throughout the United States.
In addition to numerous industry-related awards for their remodeling work, PSG Construction, the company co-owned by Stephen, has received over 15 first-place or grand awards in the Metro Orlando Home Builders Association Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase over the last 13 years.
In a constant pursuit to increase his knowledge in the new home construction and remodeling industry, Stephen is a Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), Certified Graduate Builder (CGB), and a Certified Green Professional (CGP).
